Cultural differences between countries

Different ethnic or national origin also brings different habits, customs, behaviors, traditions, norms and values. All these aspects are easily observable in this project.
Some manifestations of cultural differences can be seen at a glance (traditional clothing, special jewelry), some to know when a person speaks another language, or to know his views and values, habits and so on.
The main differences we perceive in the daily rhythm, dining, traditions, character personality and way of communication. For example the Finnish students start school day at 9:30 and we start at 8:00 and still to this, in Finland is one hour time lag, it´s make our day shorter and it has an effect on the circadian rhythm of people.
I noticed the biggest difference in the dining of other cultures. In the Czech Republic we converse rarely because we want to enjoy our meal and this moment. But other countries perceive the dining differently, which is very unusual but interesting for us.

In our opinion for the students who want to visit another country in the Erasmus is important to know not only the language but also cultural differences, customs and traditions because it is important to the restoration of patient´s health.

Group work

We were devided to 5 groups of 6 people on Monday but we started with group work on Wednesday afternoon. First I felt so comfused because I didn´t know what everybody wants from me. But on Friday, I understood to it. We begun to compare information about our education system, learning theories, medical modules etc. It was interesting how everything is diferent in each country and that everything depends on finance and political system of country. Everywhere is different admission requirements, length of study, number of hours of theory, number of hours of practice, evaluation during the course, number of credits, the way of graduation, and so on. For example only maltese students get a diploma after their studies. Mentoring system does not work in CR, we have only practical teacher who goes to hospital and also teaches at the school. It is hard for them, because it is very demanding and it is hard for students too, because practical teacher leave our department at 10:15 and than we work without teacher.

Structure of our curriculum (shortly):
Entrance requirements: completed secondary/high school by pass graduation (school leaving exam); pass entrance examination which consists of the test from General Biology and English or German language.
Lenght of study: 3 years
Awarded qualification: Bachelor´s degree
ECTS: 180 (18 for practical and 162 for theoretical)
Hourse of theory and practice: Both 2300 hours
Assessment throughout the curse: attendance (80% seminars, 100% practice), write essays, oral and written exams and practical exams
Final exam: State final examination, written thesis

Hospital tour

The week in Pori ends. Although during these past few days my english has imrpoved it is still lacking of vocabulary and sentence structure
Hospital tour
We visited Pori hospital on Monday. It was my first expereince here and it was very interesting for me.
Within the hospital we saw intensive care ward, the emergency department, a general medical ward and a diabetic ward.
The Emergency ward in Pori hospital was very quiet and It is my opinion that sorting patients in a process of triage is verz efficient.Unlike Finland, in CR triage nurses do not exist. Only a receptionist is available to do this process, and this person only detects why a patient has come to hospital, and details of what has happend to him and than she send him to the doctor. But I did not practice at emergency setting as yet. One nurse takes care of about three patients in Pori hospital, similar in Czech republic. Nurses use technical advances in Finland, and I think that it is same in every country in Europe. Intensive care unit is full of technical equipment which is needed to save lives. This equipment is placed in vicinities of the workspace unlike in CR - nurses have it only in one room - it makes hard organization of work and chaos. In medical ward were a videocamera to monitoring people in isolation room. This was very useful for the nurse because she knows about patient state all the time, while minimising unecessary contact with infectious pathogens. Shifts in Pori hospital are divided into three shifts of eight hours each, one hour being used to give over.We have only two shifts from 6 am. to 6 pm, which sometimes may be long and tiring. Finally I would like to say that the medical system in the Czech republic needs to improve and develop further, however it depends on money, political system, but also on access and openness of nurse, doctors and patients to change.
